Sharjah Misdemeanor Court heard a case in which an Asian woman was accused of misappropriating lost property with the intent to possess it. The accused misappropriated an earring that she found inside a parking lot of a shopping mall.
Investigations revealed that the accused got out of a vehicle at the scene of the incident to pick up the piece of jewellery from the ground and leave the place without taking any action to report it or hand it over to the competent authorities.
Meanwhile, the surveillance cameras installed at the site clearly revealed what happened and helped identify the accused, track the vehicle used and link it to the case.
During the proceedings, the defendant denied the charges against her, asserting that the item she picked up from the parking lot was a ring belonging to her personally, not an earring belonging to the victim.
Indicating that she was unaware of any other person’s belongings being lost at the scene, the accused admitted that the vehicle seen in the camera footage and recorded in the police report belonged to her husband.
The court decided to postpone the case to a later session for the legal procedures to be completed in preparation for a final verdict.
