Al Ain court orders woman to pay Dhs20,000 for photographing a minor without parents' consent

Al Ain Civil, Commercial and Administrative cases Court ordered a woman to pay Dhs20,000 in compensation to a parent, as the woman had violated the privacy of his minor daughter by photographing her and publishing the photos on one of her social media accounts without the knowledge or consent of her guardian.

Child's guardian filed a lawsuit against her, requesting that she be ordered to pay him Dhs100,000 as comprehensive civil compensation for the material and moral damages he and his minor daughter incurred, as well as ordering her to pay the fees, expenses, and lawyer's fees.

The complainant stated that the defendant had previously been convicted by a judgment issued in a previous criminal case, and was fined Dhs10,000, and temporary compensation to him in civil rights amounting to Dhs10,000, on the charge of violating the privacy of his minor daughter by taking photos and videos of her, and publishing them through her social media account, and the Court of Appeal upheld the judgment which became final due to no appeal being filed.

The court clarified that it reviewed the criminal case documents and heard the statements of both parties to the dispute, and also reviewed the photos and videos which were published, and was satisfied with them in assessing the extent of the moral and emotional damage incurred by the victim and her parent, and estimated the compensation at an additional Dhs20,000.
