Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations at Dubai Police, has warned of the growing phenomenon of teenagers driving motorcycles in residential areas, especially during the holy month of Ramadan and in the hours that follow Iftar.
This poses extreme danger to their safety and the safety of others and causes disturbance to residents and public peace, he said.
Some teenagers drive motorcycles and recreational bikes in service roads and residential areas without realizing the dangers involved or abiding by safety requirements, he added, noting that this would expose them to the risk of being run over or colliding with vehicles and pedestrians, especially in areas that witness a large number of families, children and the elderly.
This behaviour is a legal violation and poses a direct threat to road security and the safety of road users, he said, noting that traffic patrols intensified their activities in residential neighborhoods and detected a number of cases recently.
The offenders were arrested to preserve their safety and the safety of road users, while their motorcycles were impounded and their parents were summoned, he added, noting that reports to this effect were filed at police stations and the necessary legal measures were taken against them.
Al Mazrouei pointed out that Dubai Police receive reports and observations about such behaviours through the ‘We Are All Police’ service on 901 or through the ‘Police Eye’ service in Dubai Police app., stressing that co-operation of the public would contribute to reducing this phenomenon and enhancing the security and safety of residential areas.
