A medical team at Tadawi Hospital in Dubai successfully removed a colon tumor from a young patient (35 years old) using an advanced gastrointestinal endoscopy technique, without the need for traditional surgical removal.
The operation was performed by Dr. Shaimaa Afifi, Consultant Gastroenterologist and Endoscopist at Tadawi Hospital, who explained that the patient arrived at the hospital suffering from rectal bleeding. After medical examinations, CT scans, and diagnostic endoscopy, the patient was found to have a cancerous tumor in the colon, which required a delicate operation for its removal.
She added, "We decided to perform the removal using the latest advanced gastrointestinal endoscopy techniques, known as 'third space' techniques. These techniques allow for precise and complete removal of tumors from within the colon wall, while preserving the surrounding healthy tissues, and without the need for open surgery or surgical removal of the colon."
She explained, "This modern technique offers several advantages, including ensuring complete tumor removal with high precision, avoiding large surgical scars, preserving colon function, and reducing health complications compared to traditional surgery."
Dr. Afifi indicated that the operation was a complete success, with the patient recovering and being discharged from the hospital in record time.
She also stated that Tadawi Hospital's reliance on modern medical technologies contributes to performing complex and delicate surgeries with complete success, enabling full recovery for patients without complications. She noted that continuous training of medical staff, the provision of advanced healthcare capabilities, and the distinguished healthcare services in Dubai all contribute to providing excellent and safe medical care to patients.
