The Command and Control Centre of the General Department of Operations at Dubai Police managed a total of 8,263 calls through the emergency hotline 999 during the two-day fog period.
The fog was observed on Monday and Tuesday, occurring between 3 a.m. and 10 a.m. on both days.
Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Abdulrahman Al Ali, the Acting Director of the Command and Control Centre, stressed the importance of drivers exercising caution during foggy conditions and other weather changes. He urged them to comply with safety regulations, heed advice and instructions from all relevant authorities in the country, and ensure a safe distance is maintained between vehicles.
He explained that dense fog significantly reduces horizontal visibility on roads, potentially leading to traffic accidents involving numerous vehicles and resulting in both human and material losses.
Such incidents can be prevented if drivers follow the advice and guidance provided by the relevant authorities in the country.
Al Ali stressed the importance of safe driving practices during foggy conditions, advising motorists to slow down, avoid abrupt braking, use fog lights, drive below the speed limit, and ensure their windshield wipers are in use.
He also encouraged cyclists and electric scooter riders to prioritize safety by wearing reflective vests, using designated lanes, maintaining low speeds, and adhering to all traffic rules and regulations.
