The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil, and Administrative Claims Court has ordered a man to pay Dhs20,000 in compensation after he chased another man in the street, intentionally hit his vehicle twice, causing damage, and insulted him in front of passersby with offensive language.
The plaintiff filed a lawsuit, and an investigation was launched. The defendant was later referred to the Criminal Court, where he was convicted by the Bani Yas Misdemeanour Court, and the conviction was upheld on appeal. The Court of Cassation ultimately rejected the defendant's appeal, confirming that the perpetrator had assaulted both the victim's vehicle and person, insulted his dignity, and threatened him publicly.
The court noted that, despite multiple requests, the defendant had failed to repair the damage to the vehicle. As a result, it awarded the victim Dhs10,000 in temporary compensation. However, the complainant argued that the court had not fully assessed the actual damages, prompting him to file a supplementary civil lawsuit for full compensation.
The court clarified that the final criminal judgment established that the defendant had intentionally assaulted the victim. It was confirmed that the defendant had chased the plaintiff in a manner that threatened his life and safety, using his vehicle as a weapon to repeatedly collide with the plaintiff’s vehicle. The defendant also insulted and publicly humiliated the plaintiff, directly threatening his safety in front of others. This behavior was deemed hostile and intentional.
As a result, the court ruled that the compensation should reflect the full extent of the damages and ordered the defendant to pay supplementary compensation. This amount included Dhs15,000 for vehicle repairs, in addition to Dhs5,000 for moral damages.
