The Sharjah Police, through the Security Media Department and in collaboration with the Anti-Begging Committee, initiated the campaign "Begging is a Crime and Giving is a Responsibility."
This initiative seeks to raise community awareness about the risks posed by such behaviors, which do not belong to the society, with the goal of maintaining security and stability within the community up until end of Eid Al Fitr holiday.
This initiative builds upon the ongoing awareness campaigns led by Sharjah Police to combat negative behaviors and limit their prevalence, such as begging and the presence of street vendors in residential neighborhoods and commercial spots.
These efforts aim to tackle situations where some individuals take advantage of the spirit of generosity during the holy month to illicitly gain financial benefits.
The Sharjah Police stressed the need for community members to remain alert and not fall prey to the tactics of beggars who take advantage of people's emotions and goodwill.
They called for active involvement in minimizing these practices through a sense of shared social responsibility. Citizens were encouraged to channel their donations through official means, such as charitable organizations and institutions authorised by government bodies.
Furthermore, the public was urged to cooperate with the police by promptly reporting any instances of begging via the free hotline 901.
