The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure announced that the bypass lane ‘exit’ for those coming from Dubai towards Sharjah City at Bridge No. 7 on Emirates Road has been closed as part of the ongoing development work to develop and improve the efficiency of the intersection.
The ministry urged drivers to use the alternative routes indicated by the directional signs, abide by traffic guidelines and safety rules and plan their trips in advance with a view to ensuring smooth traffic flow and safety of all road users.
Earlier, the ministry announced that it started carrying out a project to develop and improve the efficiency of the Emirates Road at an estimated cost of Dhs750 million.
The project came as part of a comprehensive national plan to address traffic congestion and build smart, flexible and sustainable infrastructure that would support economic growth and enhance quality of life.
The project includes widening the road from three to five lanes in each direction over a length of 25 kilometres, starting from Al Badee interchange and reaching the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain, which will raise the road’s capacity to about 9,000 vehicles per hour, up by 65 per cent.
The development of Interchange No. 7 also includes the construction of six directional bridges with a total length of 12.6 kilometers and a capacity of up to 13,200 vehicles per hour, and building 3.4 kilometres of collector roads on both sides of the road, thereby enhancing the traffic flow.
When completed, the road is expected to reduce travel time by up to 45 per cent for those coming from the Ras Al Khaimah, passing through Umm Al Quwain and Sharjah to reach Dubai, and vice versa, which will contribute to reducing traffic density and improving traffic flow on one of the most used federal roads in the country.
