The International Astronomy Centre (IAC) effectively observed and captured images of the crescent moon, signalling the start of the holy month of Ramadan for the year 1447 AH. The sighting took place in daylight hours through the Al Khatim Astronomical Observatory in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday morning, February 18, at 10:30 am UAE time.
The IAC detailed that the crescent moon was detected using advanced astronomical imaging techniques. At the time of observation, the moon was positioned 9.8 degrees away from the sun, with an age of 16.6 hours.
It further explained that the final image was produced by combining multiple astronomical captures to improve the visibility of the crescent, along with capturing a standalone image. The centre acknowledged the efforts of Mohammed Awda, Khalfan Al Nuaimi, Osama Ghanem, and Anas Mohammed in executing the imaging process.
