His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has launched the “Edge of Life” campaign, aimed at saving five million children under the age of five from death due to malnutrition and hunger.
Sheikh Mohammed wrote on his X account: “Brothers and sisters, in a few days we will welcome a blessed and dear month. As is our annual custom to launch a humanitarian Ramadan campaign from the people of the UAE to the world, this month we are launching the ‘Edge of Life’ campaign, which aims to save five million children under the age of five from death due to malnutrition and hunger. Last year, more than 118 million children worldwide suffered from malnutrition. According to estimates, 2.6 million of them died due to hunger.”
He added: “It is not in our nature or values to witness such a human tragedy before the eyes of the world and do nothing. We are launching this campaign with a group of international organisations, and our goal is to mobilise efforts to collect at least one billion dirhams, locally and internationally, to save five million children who are on the edge of life.”
Sheikh Mohammed further said: “May Almighty Allah protect our country, protect our people, guide us to all that is good, and unite us in this month of goodness for the best acts of charity — feeding the poor and needy.”
