Dubai Police have warned of the dangers of wrong-way driving, which increases the likelihood of fatal accidents due to head-on collisions, endangers the lives of drivers and pedestrians, disrupts traffic and causes significant material and human losses. Driving a vehicle, a motorcycle or an e-scooter in the wrong direction poses a direct threat to the lives of drivers and is one of the most prominent causes of fatal accidents, said Brigadier Juma Salem Bin Suwaidan, Director of General Department of Traffic.
He called on all road users to abide by the correct lanes and respect traffic rules in order to preserve their safety and the safety of others.
This came after an e-scooter driver sustained serious injuries in a collision between an e-scooter and a vehicle on an internal street in Naif area.
The e-scooter rider was driving his e-scooter against the flow of traffic, which led to his direct collision with the vehicle.
He sustained serious injuries as a result of which he was transferred to the hospital for the necessary medical treatment.
Earlier the Command and Control Centre in the General Department of Operations received a report about the incident, and traffic patrols and ambulance teams rushed to the site, Bin Suwaidan said.
Stressing the importance of abiding by traffic laws and regulations, he said such dangerous behaviour could lead to dire consequences for drivers and other road users in terms of both lives and property.
Dubai Police will continue to implement traffic awareness campaigns aimed at reducing dangerous behaviour on the roads and will take strict legal measures against violators in support of road security and community safety, he added.
