Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court ordered a man to return another $100,000 or its equivalent in UAE dirhams, in addition to a compensation of Dhs50,000, after the suspect had seized the amount by deceiving the victim into investing and earning profits.
The details date back to when a man filed a lawsuit against another, requesting that he be ordered to pay him Dhs605,550, equivalent to $165,000, a 5% interest from the date of the claim until full payment, and Dhs150,000 as compensation for the damages he incurred, as well as court fees, expenses, and attorney's fees.
The plaintiff stated that the defendant seized the amount after deceiving him into investing and earning profits, which made him transfer the amount, but he later discovered that he had been a victim of fraud, and consequently, he filed a criminal case and a judgment was issued, convicting the defendant.
The court clarified that it was established from the criminal judgment that the defendant was convicted after the error was proved, following a review of the documents which proved that the amount was $100,000, and therefore ordered the defendant to return it or its equivalent in UAE dirhams.
The court also ordered him to pay a total compensation of Dhs50,000 for all damages incurred.
