Abu Dhabi Police dealt with seven motorcycle accidents in sandy areas, which resulted from reckless driving and failure to comply with safety requirements.
As many as nine people sustained serious to moderate injuries as a result of these accidents.
Brigadier General Mahmoud Yousef Al Balushi, Director of the Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate, called on motorcyclists to abide by traffic rules and safety instructions, wear protective helmets to protect themselves from head injuries.
He also called on them to wear the right motorcycle gear, ensure the safety of their motorcycles and the proper functioning of front and rear lights and tires and provide a first aid kit and approved protective equipment.
Besides, he urged them to reduce the speed of motorcycles in crowded areas and to ride them in the right lanes as shown by the traffic signs, noting that offenders would be caught by the traffic patrols in internal roads and highways.
Meanwhile, Colonel Jaber Saeedan Al Mansouri, Director of Traffic and Security Patrols Department - Al Ain, called on families and parents to accompany their children to the areas where they practice the hobby of riding motorcycles, including uninhabited sandy areas, to prevent negative behaviours that might result in serious traffic accidents.
