The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) expects a drop in temperatures on Sunday, especially in the west, and strong winds over the next 3 days, as the country is affected by the extension of a surface low from the east and a high pressure from the west, accompanied by a weak low extension in the upper atmosphere.
The NCM pointed out that Saturday's weather is expected to be clear to partly cloudy, and humid at night and in the morning on Sunday in some internal areas, with a chance of fog or light fog formation, and winds will blow from the south-west to the north-west, with light to moderate speed, but will be occasionally active to strong over the sea, stirring up dust, with speeds ranging from 10 to 30, amounting to 45 km/h, while the sea will be moderately rough, becoming rough to very rough at night in the Arabian Gulf and light in the Sea of Oman.
Sunday's weather is expected to be dusty and partly cloudy at times, with a drop in temperatures especially in the west, and humid at night and in the morning on Monday in some internal areas, with winds blowing from the north-west at moderate to occasionally strong speeds stirring up dust that leads to reduced horizontal visibility, with speeds ranging from 15 to 30, amounting to 50 km/h, while the sea will be very rough to rough in the Arabian Gulf and light to moderate in the Sea of Oman. The NCM forecasts Monday's weather to be clear to partly cloudy, with the appearance of low clouds in the northern and eastern areas, and humid at night and in the morning of Tuesday in some internal western areas with a possibility of fog or light fog formation.
Winds are expected to blow from the north-west to the north-east, with light to moderate speed, occasionally active, with speeds ranging from 10 to 25, amounting to 40 km/h, and the sea will be rough to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and moderate in the Sea of Oman. Tuesday's weather is expected to be clear to partly cloudy, with the appearance of low clouds in the eastern and northern areas and the islands, and humid at night and in the morning of Wednesday in some western internal areas with a possibility of fog or light fog formation.
Winds are expected to blow from the north-east to the north-west, with light to moderate speed, occasionally active, with speeds ranging from 10 to 25, amounting to 35 km/h, and the sea will be light to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and light in the Sea of Oman.
Fog, drop in temperature likely in many areas of UAE
The NCM indicated that the highest amount of rainfall recorded in January was 229.9 mm at Saqr Port in 2020.
Regarding the maximum temperatures, the highest temperature recorded during this month was 36°C in some areas, such as Asab in Abu Dhabi in 1991, Al Hayer and Al Foah in Al Ain in 1983, while the lowest temperature was recorded in Rukna in 2021, reaching two degrees Celsius below zero. It also noted an increase in relative humidity, especially in the morning hours, which facilitates the opportunity for fog and light fog formation in the internal and coastal areas, pointing out that the maximum relative humidity rate ranges between 78% and 91%.
The recurrence of dust events in recent years has been recorded at Zayed International Airport, Sharjah Airport, Ras Al Khaimah Airport, Fujairah Airport, and Al Ain Airport, where dust was recorded twice over several years, the NCM reported.
Regarding wind movement, the NCM reported that the prevailing winds during this month are north-western winds, which shift in the morning hours to south-eastern, and may become active on some days of the month, especially with cumulus clouds.
The highest wind speed recorded was 101.9 kph at Zayed International Airport in 2022.
The average rainfall during January will be around the general average or lower, which is 11.1 mm, the NCM anticipated, explaining that the average temperatures for the month will be around the general average or slightly higher, with an overall average temperature of 18.3°C.
