As part of its "Our Winter is Safe and Enjoyable: campaign, the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate urged drivers to adhere to safety regulations when transporting motorcycles in trailers of all types and sizes.
These include affixing a third licence plate to the rear of the trailer, equipping the trailer with lights and warning signals, using hazard lights for both the vehicle and the trailer, and ensuring the trailer is fitted with a warning and reflective sticker.
Drivers must also always stay in the right lane to guarantee the safety of both the vehicle and the trailer. The width of the trailer must not exceed 260cm and its length must not exceed that of the vehicle.
The Directorate also noted that Article 96, which relates to towing a vehicle, boat or cart in an unsafe or insecure manner, carries a penalty of Dhsh1,000.
Article 97 stipulates that the absence of lights at the rear or on the sides of the trailer constitutes an offence punishable by a fine of Dhs500.
Article 27(B) of the Federal Traffic Law states that individuals who commit acts that may obscure the licence plate numbers of a vehicle will be fined Dhs400.
The commitment to intensifying traffic control and taking legal action against any vehicle that does not comply with safety laws for trailers is emphasised.
