The Anti-Fraud Centre of the General Department of Criminal Investigation at Dubai Police urged community members to purchase tickets for concerts, artistic events, community events, sports events and travel only through the official websites of the relevant authorities and organisers.
As part of its ongoing 'Be Aware of Fraud' campaign, the Dubai Police have warned people about electronic fraud attempts through unreliable websites and pages that illegally sell tickets for concerts, events and travel. These sites take advantage of the scarcity and high demand for these items.
They stressed the need for constant caution and vigilance when purchasing tickets from various websites, explaining that fraudsters create fake websites or social media accounts bearing names similar to those of official or well-known entities. These offer fake tickets in exchange for a financial transfer or the entry of bank card data. The victim is then either not sent the ticket or finds that money has been unlawfully withdrawn.
The Dubai Police stressed that tickets should only be purchased through the official websites of the organisers or approved platforms. They also asserted the importance of verifying the validity of electronic links and reviewing secure payment methods, as well as avoiding offers that appear significantly lower than the usual price.
They urged people to report fake websites and platforms, or any attempt at fraud, immediately through the Dubai Police smart application, by calling 901, or via the eCrime platform for reporting cybercrimes.
