Al Dhafra Municipality, part of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, announced that the project to expand Sheikha Salama Bint Butti Road in Madinat Zayed was nearing completion, with a completion rate exceeding 98%.
The work was carried out at a record time within a contractual period of 168 days, considering the scope of work.
The project is part of ongoing efforts to upgrade road networks, improve traffic flow and enhance the quality of services provided to the inhabitants of Madinat Zayed and Al Dhafra Region.
The project aims to increase the road’s capacity, improve traffic safety, enhance environmental sustainability and raise the efficiency of asset and public facility management in line with the emirate’s vision of achieving more vibrant, attractive and sustainable cities.
The project included adding a new 10-km long lane, extending from the Marabe Al Dhafra intersection to the Baynuna Educational Complex intersection, as well as cancelling two traffic signal intersections at Ghabat Al Dhafra and Zaabeel streets to improve traffic flow.
Acceleration and deceleration lanes were also added along the road, while the entrances and exits to the new Madinat Zayed bus station were developed to provide priority for public transport and ensure pedestrians’ safety.
A smart traffic signal system will be adopted with the aim of regulating traffic flow and reducing waiting times in line with the orientation towards smart and sustainable infrastructure.
As part of the project, a light intersection will be established and operated in front of the main Al Dhafra Municipality building to serve the industrial area and hence link the commercial district and Marabe Al Dhafra with the public park and ease movement in all directions.
These improvements enhance the city’s urban integration and act as a catalyst for economic growth by serving major commercial centres and promoting environmentally friendly light transportation.
