His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the Independence Square project on Tuesday after the completion of works which included the construction of the Independence Monument and the development of the square and surrounding buildings, coinciding with the UAE's celebrations of the 54th National Day and in commemoration of the UAE's independence on December 2, 1971.
Sheikh Sultan inaugurated the Imam Al-Nawawi Mosque, located in Independence Square, which was built in 1995 and restored in the Fatimid style. The mosque’s inauguration coincided with the opening of the square, with His Highness unveiling the commemorative plaque to mark the official opening.
This opening comes in line with Sheikh Sultan's directives to restore mosques in the Emirate of Sharjah, contributing to their preservation being symbols of Sharjah.
