The Dubai Misdemeanours Court sentenced an Asian national to two years in jail, to be followed by deportation from the country after serving his sentence and fined him Dhs130,000.
The suspect was charged with stealing 18 air conditioners from a villa in Al Muhaisnah area in Dubai.
Details date back to the time when a Gulf national filed a report stating that 18 air conditioners had been stolen from a villa he owned in Al Muhaisnah area.
The man said he discovered the theft after going to the villa to check on it following a decision to close it for violating rental conditions and using it as shared accommodation.
He added he noticed signs of disorder and damage to the outer door, and that all the air conditioners installed on the roof of the villa were missing.
A policeman stated in the interrogations that he collected evidence from the crime scene and concluded that the suspect was serving a sentence in a similar case.
The forensic report showed that the suspect's fingerprint was found on the outer cover of one of the air conditioners.
On being questioned, he confessed to the theft and to committing similar crimes, explaining that he was residing illegally after entering the country as an infiltrator.
