The Holy Quran Academy in Sharjah and the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation(ICESCO) discussed ways to collaborate in promoting Quranic sciences and rhetorical exegesis studies, and in sharing expertise and organising academic seminars and conferences.
During a tour of the Academy, Dr Salim Mohammed A. Al Malik, ICESCO's Director-General, was accompanied by a delegation including Dr Osama Heikal (Head of the Media and Communication Sector), Salim Omar Salim (Director of ICESCO’s Regional Office in Sharjah), Dr Salim Hilal Al Habsi (Director of the General Secretariat for National Commissions and Conferences), Dr Mohamed Zinelabidine (Head of the Culture and Communication Sector), Dr Abdulhakeem Al Senan (Director of ICESCO’s Regional Office in Baku) and Eng. Abdullah Al Salihi, Partnerships & External Relations Officer.
Dr Abdullah Khalaf Al Hosani, Secretary-General of the Holy Quran Academy, received them along with a number of department directors. The delegation was given a tour of the Academy’s museum and scientific facilities, during which they received a detailed explanation of the Academy’s scholarly, research and museum activities.
Dr Salem Bin Mohammed Al Malik, Director-General of ICESCO, stated that the Holy Quran Academy is a scientific beacon, not only because of the beauty of its architecture, but also because of the manuscripts and artefacts it houses.
These recount the history of the writing of the Quran, its sciences, and the scholars who devoted their utmost efforts to serving the Holy Quran.
Al Malik praised the great efforts made by His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council and ruler of Sharjah, in establishing this unique and remarkable institution, which has become a popular destination for visitors and researchers alike.
He added that it will endure for future generations, who will benefit from this rich source of civilisational and historical knowledge.
He also commented on the care given to the Holy Quran and to the history of writing its rare manuscripts, saying that this reflects Sharjah’s significant role in serving the Book of God.
He added that this affirms the Academy’s status as a global destination for learning the Quran in its well-established and mass-transmitted recitations.
He noted that ICESCO will introduce scientific initiatives and collaborative projects with the Academy that serve the Holy Quran and its sciences. He emphasised that this partnership will be fruitful, given that the Academy is a leading educational and scholarly institution on the global stage, supported and overseen by the Ruler of Sharjah.
