The Dubai Police have announced an expansion of the "noise radars" operation in various areas of the emirate.
The aim is to reduce the disturbing noise emitted by some vehicles and motorcycles, which causes annoyance to Dubai residents and visitors.
The Dubai Police have confirmed that the initiative supports the vision of the wise leadership to make Dubai the most peaceful and civilised city in the world.
They also noted that the next phase would see a gradual increase in the number of speed cameras to cover the whole of Dubai.
"This step is one of the outcomes of Dubai Civility Committee's efforts to improve quality of life and public tranquillity in the emirate," the police added.
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations at Dubai Police, explained that the force recently began using these radars as part of its smart technology system for managing traffic.
He noted that they have proven their efficiency in monitoring modified vehicles or those that violate environmental standards. These devices can measure the noise level of modified vehicles, identify the source of the noise accurately, and recurd the violation with video whenever the noise exceeds permissible limits.
They also monitor vehicles that use their horns unnecessarily and can detect noise from audio devices in vehicles.
He stated that 'noise radars' represent a qualitative step within Dubai Police's smart technology system, which is designed to enhance traffic security and protect community members' comfort. He added that the project contributes to reducing annoying practices and ensuring a calmer, more reassuring traffic environment.
He explained that the violations detected by the radars include vehicles equipped with components that emit high noise levels, noise resulting from sound devices and unnecessary use of the horn. He clarified that the value of the violation is Dhs2,000 and 12 black points, while the fees for releasing the impoundment amount to Dhs10,000.
He emphasised that the purpose of introducing these systems is not to issue fines, but to encourage drivers to adhere to civilised road etiquette. He stressed that keeping the peace is a shared societal responsibility which contributes to the comfort of residents and visitors, as well as supporting the emirate's efforts to achieve the standards of modern, sophisticated cities.
Major General Saif Al Mazrouei confirmed that Dubai Police would continue to monitor and track vehicles causing disturbances using traffic patrols and smart systems. They would also implement extensive awareness campaigns to inform the public about the dangers of noise and its impact on public health and community safety.
He further stated that Dubai Police utilise the latest smart technologies to accurately monitor noise levels and enforce the law, as part of its efforts to protect the emirate's civilised image and ensure public comfort. He added that these initiatives form part of a comprehensive strategy to achieve the highest quality of life indicators.
He added, "The noise radars' initiative reflects Dubai Police's commitment to implementing the latest technological and innovative solutions, in line with its vision of making Dubai the safest, quietest and most prosperous city in the world."
Al Mazroui pointed out that the Dubai Police are implementing an integrated strategy aimed at enhancing traffic and environmental safety. This strategy uses modern technologies to reduce negative behaviours that cause annoyance to members of society. He explained that some drivers tamper with vehicle exhausts or drive recklessly, which annoys pedestrians and residents.
