The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court ordered a man to pay Dhs30,000 in compensation to another man for defaming him in a public place.
The defendant had falsely claimed that the plaintiff's company was defective with the intention of damaging his reputation among his colleagues.
The plaintiff filed a lawsuit against the defendant, requesting Dhs350,000 in compensation for material and moral damages suffered as a result of the defendant's actions, as well as court fees, expenses and legal costs.
The plaintiff filed his lawsuit on the basis that the accused had insulted him in a public place and claimed that his company was defective, with the intention of tarnishing his reputation in front of his colleagues and causing him harm.
As a result, a criminal case was initiated, a judgement was issued and the complainant suffered material and moral damage, prompting him to file this lawsuit with the aforementioned requests.
The court explained that, according to Articles 292 and 293/1 of the Civil Transactions Law, anyone who causes harm to another person is obliged to provide compensation.
The accused was at fault for insulting the complainant, causing him moral damage in the form of pain, sorrow and damage to his honour. Therefore, the court has awarded him Dhs30,000 in compensation for these damages.
