The 44th edition of Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) made a vibrant start with the colours and magic of a British autumn as a team of dancers from the UK glided through the fair’s venue in roller skaters.
The 3D Flower Roller Skaters from the UK left visitors mesmerised, bringing a unique spectacle of elegance and energy in what is their maiden appearance at the 12-day annual event being held at the Sharjah Expo Centre until November 16.
Dressed as radiant blossoms in red, pink, yellow, and lavender, the four skaters – Lilly, Nadia, Elle, and Amy turned every corner of the venue into a moving garden in their rare ‘Petals-on-Wheels’ act. Their graceful spins and synchronised twirls brought a unique cheer to the festival floor, earning smiles, applause and countless camera clicks.
“It’s our first time performing at SIBF, and it’s been incredible,” said Alice Percival, founder of the company managing the troupe. “The energy here is so positive – the kids’ faces light up when they see the colours and movement, and even parents and teachers stop to watch. It’s wonderful to see that kind of joy.”
According to Percival, her company specialises in roller, ice and dance entertainment using custom “off-ice skates” that allow performers to glide as gracefully as they would on ice. “That’s what makes them so beautiful and it’s a sight when they turn up as flowers,” she said. “Our theme is all about positivity and colour to bring happiness and wonder to this fabulous event.”
Performing twice daily until Saturday, 8th November, the 3D Flower Roller Skaters have quickly become one of the fair’s most photographed and talked-about acts.
The 12-day annual event, organised by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) under the theme “Between you and a book” at the Sharjah Expo Centre, is set to feature a diverse set of workshops, author sessions, and cultural performances for visitors of all ages.
