In collaboration with the Monitoring and Control Centre, the Abu Dhabi Police have released a video highlighting the dangers of stopping on the hard shoulder and driving while distracted.
The Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate urged drivers to focus fully on the road, avoid distractions and refrain from stopping on the hard shoulder, whether due to a flat tyre or for any other reason.
The Directorate also urged drivers to head to the nearest exit to ensure the safety of other road users. If they are unable to move their vehicle, they should contact the 999 Command and Control Centre (Operations Room) immediately for assistance, to help prevent serious and dangerous accidents, as well as traffic congestion.
They called for adherence to safety procedures in the event of a vehicle breakdown. These include avoiding being inside the broken-down vehicle, moving away from the road and using designated emergency areas.
They also emphasised the importance of not stopping on the hard shoulder for any reason and moving the vehicle off the hard shoulder. They explained that the law applies to those who do not comply, with incorrect parking resulting in a fine of Dhs500.
The directorate urged drivers to avoid distractions and maintain full focus while driving. This enhances alertness, helps drivers anticipate hazards, and enables them to respond quickly and safely. It explained that inattention in this situation could lead to traffic accidents resulting in death or serious injury.
