In a qualitative operation carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Sharjah Police General Command, in cooperation with the Federal Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Interior, an individual of Arab nationality was arrested for his involvement in the illegal trade of protected species.
The seizure followed a well-planned ambush, resulting in the confiscation of several animals protected by international agreements. Among them were a group of endangered lynx and foxes, species whose trade is prohibited and not authorised.
In coordination with the Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the animals were transferred to a nature reserve, while the accused was referred to the Public Prosecution for legal proceedings.
Sharjah Police has emphasised its commitment to combatting practices that threaten the ecological balance.
The force has called on community members to cooperate and report any suspected cases of the acquisition or trade of protected animals. This is in support of the state’s efforts to protect the environment and wildlife.
