Dubai Police, in partnership with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), successfully concluded a three-day Human Rights training course aimed at enhancing awareness and professionalism in policing. Held by the General Department of Human Rights, the course brought together 40 participants from the National Human Rights Institution, various Dubai Police departments, and police stations across the emirate.
The course focused on helping police officers and human rights specialists better understand how to integrate human rights values into their daily work. It covered ways to build trust with the community, protect vulnerable groups, and deliver services that uphold dignity, fairness, and equality.
Lieutenant Colonel Dr Ali Al Matrooshi, Director of the Child and Women Protection Department, said the course reflects Dubai Police’s strong commitment to ensuring its practices meet both professional and human values.
“Respect for human rights is central to what we do. It helps strengthen community trust and improves the quality of our services. We were pleased to see great enthusiasm and awareness among participants. We’re proud to graduate a new group of professionals who will carry these values into the field with dedication and care.” Learning from Global Standards Throughout the course, participants explored: •The global human rights framework and the UAE’s international commitments •How to apply human rights standards to police work •Protecting vulnerable groups and respecting their rights •Real-life case studies, group discussions, and interactive sessions They also learned how to take a human rights-based approach to policing, making sure that respect, protection, and equality are at the heart of their daily decisions.
At the closing ceremony, Lt. Col. Dr Ali Al Matrooshi and Dr Sabrina Wollman, Head of UNITAR’s International Law Programme, handed out certificates to the participants. They praised the group’s strong engagement and teamwork throughout the course, wishing them continued success in their careers.

Dubai Police have also won five prestigious awards from the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) for 2025, during the annual awards ceremony held in the United States as part of the association’s global conference.
