In less than two hours after receiving the report, Bur Dubai Police Station successfully identified and arrested two masked thieves who stole Dhs 660,000 from a supermarket and attempted to flee the UAE. The suspects were apprehended at Dubai International Airport moments before boarding a flight out of the country.
According to Bur Dubai Police Station, the two suspects had carefully planned the robbery, targeting a large supermarket outside working hours. Late at night, they approached the back entrance of the store and used sharp cutting tools to break through a secured door. Once inside, they forced open four cash boxes, seizing Dhs 60,000. They then moved to the main safe and, using the same tools, managed to crack it open and steal an additional Dhs 600,000 before escaping.
The crime was discovered early the following morning when an employee arrived ahead of opening time and noticed signs of the break-in. The staff member immediately alerted the police via the command and control center.
A rapid response team — including the duty officer, forensic specialists, and CID investigators — rushed to the scene. Officers conducted a detailed assessment of the break-in, gathering fingerprints, reviewing surveillance footage, and tracking the direction of the suspects’ escape. Despite the culprits wearing masks to disguise their identities, investigators used artificial intelligence technologies, advanced data analytics, and crime-scene evidence to quickly identify them.
Further intelligence efforts uncovered the suspects’ plan to flee the country with the stolen money. Swift coordination between Bur Dubai Police Station and the General Department of Airport Security resulted in the criminals being intercepted and arrested at the airport while attempting to board their outbound flight. The stolen cash — totaling Dhs 660,000 — was recovered in full.
Authorities confirmed that both suspects have been referred to the Public Prosecution for further legal action.
