Jordan has confirmed that it will not take part in any military role within the international forces expected to be formed to maintain peace in Gaza. Jordanian government spokesperson Mohammad al-Momani said on Friday that Jordanian forces will not be sent to the Gaza Strip.
Speaking to Jordanian television, he stated, “We will not send Jordanian forces to the Gaza Strip.” He added, “What we support regarding Gaza is an end to the war, the entry of aid, a political process with real prospects, and the start of reconstruction. We will not have any military role in the West Bank or the Gaza Strip.”
Momani emphasized that “the Palestinian people deserve to decide their own fate,” noting that “displacement and the violation of holy sites in Jerusalem are a red line.”
He described Israeli policies toward annexing the West Bank as “aggressive,” and expressed appreciation for American and international efforts that reaffirm rejection of annexation.
He stressed that Jordan’s humanitarian role and efforts to alleviate the suffering of the people of Gaza will continue, calling them a source of pride for every Jordanian and Arab. “We will not hesitate to provide everything we can to help our brothers and the people in Gaza,” he said.
