The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, on Saturday, partially opened the Al Hamidiya Bridge project on Sheikh Zayed Road in Ajman to traffic as part of the initiatives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Those in attendance included Eng. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Undersecretary of the Ministry, Abdulrahman Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Ajman Municipality and Planning Department, and several other ministry and department officials.
The project is part of an integrated plan to sustainably improve and develop the infrastructure and efficiency of Ajman's road network.
It will support the emirate's comprehensive development goals, improve quality of life and help it keep pace with urban growth and increasing traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road.
Construction of the 1,100-metre bridge, which features four lanes in each direction and overhead lighting, has been completed. Work is also underway on the lower intersections, pavements, car parks, and rainwater drainage systems.
Construction is also underway on the road linking Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road, as well as on the bridge connecting the two roads. All works are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
The project will ease congestion on Sheikh Zayed Road, improve traffic flow, and cut travel times by 60%. Access to the residential and service areas connected to Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road, as well as Al Hamidiya and Al Rashidiya districts, will also be improved.
Key facilities, such as the under-construction Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Hospital and the Zayed Educational Complex in Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed City, will also become more accessible.
