The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court has ordered a man to pay Dhs20,000 in compensation to a woman for violating her privacy by posting photos and videos of her on social media.
Specifically, the plaintiff filed a lawsuit against the defendant, requesting that he be ordered to pay Dhs50,000 in compensation for material and moral damages to her honour and reputation, as well as costs, expenses and attorney's fees.
The plaintiff filed her lawsuit on the grounds that the defendant violated her privacy by publishing photos and videos of her on social media.
He was convicted in a criminal trial, which prompted the plaintiff to file the present lawsuit in order to obtain justice.
The Court explained that the aforementioned criminal judgment proved that the defendant violated the complainant’s privacy. This violation resulted in her suffering health, psychological and moral damage due to the publication of her photos in public. The Court therefore finds that compensating her for all material and moral damages suffered is sufficient, in the amount of Dhs20,000.
