The General Traffic Department of the Dubai Police impounded a vehicle after its driver endangered the life of a motorcyclist by swerving and attempting to hit him while driving recklessly on one of the emirate's roads.
This incident clearly demonstrates a disregard for traffic laws and a lack of respect for the safety of others.
The Dubai Police explained that this dangerous behaviour constitutes a serious violation that endangers public safety and demonstrates the perpetrators' lack of awareness of traffic regulations.
They added that such behaviour could result in tragic accidents causing injuries or deaths, as well as disrupting traffic and endangering innocent lives. They stated that driving a vehicle in a manner that endangers one's life or the lives, safety or security of others carries a fine of Dhs2,000, 23 traffic points and vehicle impoundment for 60 days.
This was after the Dubai Police had monitored a video clip circulated on social media showing the driver swerving and attempting to hit a motorcycle on a public road, in a chaotic scene that violates traffic rules and etiquette.
The security teams responded immediately after identifying the location of the incident and verifying the clip's authenticity. The driver was arrested and the vehicle was impounded.
He was then referred to the relevant authorities for legal action.
The Dubai Police force has stressed that it will not tolerate any reckless or exhibitionist behaviour on public roads.
They confirmed that field patrols and smart surveillance systems operate around the clock to monitor and control all practices that endanger lives and property. The force called on all road users to drive responsibly and avoid behaviour that does not reflect the civilised image of drivers.
The force added that adhering to traffic laws is a national and moral duty, as well as a legal obligation.
The Dubai Police have noted that reckless driving does not demonstrate courage or skill, but rather an attitude of recklessness that could cost the driver or others their lives.
The force will deal firmly with anyone who deliberately disrupts traffic or endangers lives.
The police have called on members of the community to strictly adhere to traffic laws and cooperate with the police by reporting any dangerous behaviour via the “Police Eye” service or by calling 901 and reporting through the “We Are All Police” programme.
These measures are intended to ensure everyone's safety and promote a culture of safe driving.
