At GITEX Global 2025, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, the Dubai Police General Command unveiled the “Biometric Tunnel,” a DuBiometrics project.
As a person passes through the tunnel, artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies measure and document their physical movements, creating a certified kinematic signature that can be used to identify them based on their gait.
The Project Director, Lieutenant Colonel Dr Hamad Mansour Al Awar, explained that the biometric tunnel is one of the innovations of Dubai Police and is currently in the research and development phase. It is used in forensics to help experts identify individuals by measuring their physical movements and dimensions.
He explained that the “Biometric Tunnel” can record a person’s kinematic signature in just five seconds, measuring subtle details of movement such as joint movement and unique gait characteristics, as well as identifying features such as the effects of flat feet.
He added that the “Biometric Tunnel” operating system uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to combine motion-prints with other biometric data, such as facial and ear prints, as well as various body measurements.
This provides compelling evidence in criminal cases, especially when identifying a suspect using traditional methods proves difficult.
He concluded, “Kinetic signature relies on gait patterns and the measurement of fine details, joint movement and physical measurements in order to identify unique characteristics.”
“This helps forensic experts identify individuals, provide physical evidence to support police investigations, and achieve justice.”
