On Monday evening, the Sharjah Police dealt with a collision involving two vehicles in the city of Khorfakkan.
The accident was caused by excessive speed and the driver of one of the vehicles swerving suddenly. The collision resulted in two deaths and two moderate to severe injuries.
The police indicated that they responded to the report immediately after the accident, with specialist teams arriving at the scene quickly to take the necessary measures. The police offered their deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Colonel Dr. Walid Khamis Al Yamahi, Director of the Eastern Region Police Department, explained that the operations room received a report of a vehicle collision and rollover at 8.55pm. Police, Civil Defence and National Ambulance patrols responded immediately to the scene and treated and transported the injured to hospital for further treatment.
Colonel Al Yamahi explained that preliminary investigations, including an inspection and accident mapping, revealed that the accident was caused by the vehicle involved moving at excessive speed and swerving suddenly, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. This resulted in the vehicle crossing theroad divider and colliding with an oncoming vehicle, causing it to rollover.
He added that the driver of the damaged vehicle, a 41-year-old man, died hours after receiving treatment for his injuries, as did his son.
The driver's wife was seriously injured, and the driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident was moderately injured.
The Sharjah Police General Command has reiterated its call for drivers to adhere to speed limits, pay attention while driving, especially when turning, and avoid distractions such as using phones.
The police emphasise that adhering to traffic laws is essential for the safety of both themselves and other road users.
