The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court ordered an accountant to pay Dhs328,000 to the company he works for, in addition to a fine of Dhs10,000.
He was responsible for receiving and depositing cash from clients. At the end of each day, he used to prepare a statement detailing the clients and cash amounts received, before sending to the company’s management via WhatsApp.
However, the court discovered that he had not delivered or deposited all of the revenue received from clients and that he had signed receipts based on disbursement vouchers issued by the company and prepared by the employee himself.
When confronted, he admitted in writing that he had stolen the money, but did not pay back what he owed when asked.
Specifically, a company filed a lawsuit against an employee, requesting that he pay Dhs328,000 to the company, as well as Dhs50,000 in compensation.
The company also requested legal interest at 9 per cent from the date of the claim until full payment, as well as legal fees and expenses relating to the lawsuit and attorneys' fees.
The court ruled that the employee's financial assets were subject to the amount claimed by the company. Accordingly, the court ordered the employee to pay Dhs328,000.
Taking all of the above into consideration, the court determined that the company was due compensation of Dhs10,000 to cover all material damages suffered.
