His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has approved plans for a new bridge at the intersection between Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Road and Maliha Road.
Dr Abdullah Al Ali, Director of the Road Maintenance Department at the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA), announced this during his appearance on the 'Aman Ya Baladi' programme, broadcast live on Sharjah Radio and produced by the Media and Public Relations Department of the Sharjah Police General Command.
Dr Al Ali said that Sheikh Sultan the Ruler of Sharjah has approved the construction of a significant new bridge over Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Road at its intersection with Maliha Road.
Dr Al Ali pointed out that the project would greatly enhance traffic flow, particularly around University City and the Martyrs' Monument — two of the busiest and most important locations in the emirate.
Al Ali explained that the project is currently in the design phase and will soon be put out to tender, paving the way for implementation work to begin.
He added, "We hope the project will be launched early next year, God willing."
He pointed out that the planned bridge will significantly improve traffic flow, particularly at the intersection near University City and the Martyrs' Monument, and that it is one of the most important strategic routes connecting Sharjah to other areas.
The project is one of a series of development initiatives that the SRTA is keen to implement under the directives of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah. These initiatives aim to enhance the efficiency of the road network and keep pace with population, economic and urban growth.
The SRTA further places the utmost importance on vital intersections and is constantly working to develop its infrastructure in order to achieve the highest levels of traffic safety.
