The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court has ordered a woman to pay Dhs10,000 in compensation to a man whom she verbally abused and insulted via WhatsApp.
According to the case file, the plaintiff filed a lawsuit against the defendant, requesting that she be ordered to pay Dhs51,000 in moral damages, legal interest, costs, and fees.
The plaintiff filed a lawsuit, claiming that he had been harmed by the defendant after she insulted and slandered him via WhatsApp.
A previous case had been filed in relation to this matter, and the criminal court had ruled a fine of Dhs1,000.
Regarding the claim for compensation for moral and ethical damages, the court explained that, under Articles 282, 292 and 293(1) of the Civil Transactions Law, anyone who causes harm to another is obliged to pay compensation.
Moral damage encompasses anything that affects dignity, feelings or honour including psychological distress.
The court found that the defendant's actions had damaged the complainant's reputation, affecting his psyche and harming his dignity and humanity.
Therefore, as established by the aforementioned criminal judgements, the court finds that compensation for all moral, ethical and emotional damages caused by the defendant's actions is sufficient, amounting to Dhs10,000.
