Dedicated teams from Sharjah Police and Sharjah Civil Defence Authority responded to a fire that broke out in a house in Khorfakkan on Friday. As a result of the fire, a 52-year-old Emirati sustained burns and was admitted to the hospital for medical care.
Colonel Walid Al Yamahi, Director of the Eastern Region Police Department, explained that the operations room received a report at 6am from a family member in which he reported hearing an explosion followed by a fire in the house, adding that all dedicated teams and the National Ambulance immediately rushed to the scene.
According to Sharjah Civil Defence Authority’s fire experts, initial investigations revealed that a limited gas leak from the house’s internal sewage system caused a fire to break out in some parts of the building.
Al Yamahi called on members of the society to regularly ensure the safety and cleanliness of sewage systems, abide by safety and preventative measures when handling flammable gases and ensure regular inspection and maintenance by the competent authorities.
This should ensure the protection of lives and property and avoid such incidents, he added.
