Dubai: Through circulars sent to parents and students, public and private schools have announced their adoption of modern inspection systems involving metal detectors, as an alternative to physical inspections, to seize mobile phones and smart watches. This is in line with the Ministry of Education's decision to prohibit phones on school premises.
According to the circulars, these devices emit an audible or visual alarm when a phone is detected and can detect attempts to conceal them in bags or clothing. This will help improve discipline and boost confidence within the school.
The code of conduct stipulates that any student found in possession of a phone on school grounds will be subject to disciplinary action, starting with confiscation of the phone for one month for a first offence, extending to the end of the school year for subsequent offences. If images of teachers or students are found on the devices, the incident will be referred to the Child Rights Unit for further legal action.
