Under the patronage of Professor Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, the University launched its annual sports festival for new students of the academic year 2025/2026. The event, inaugurated by Dr. Amina Al Marzouqi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, took place across the sports fields and halls of the University’s Sports Centers, attracting broad participation from incoming students.
Reflecting on the festival’s success, Dr. Al Marzouqi expressed delight at the strong turnout, emphasizing the vital role of sports in promoting general health and its positive impact on our physical health. She encouraged even greater involvement, particularly from students residing in university housing, to actively engage in the diverse sports activities organized by the university’s Sports Activity Department throughout the academic year.
The opening ceremony featured a dynamic martial arts exhibition involving karate, taekwondo, and jiu-jitsu students, followed by a guided tour led by Dr. Al Marzouqi alongside Dr. Hisham Abdul Haleem, Head of Student Activities. Captain Salah Taher Al Amri, Head of the Sports Activities Department, outlined the festival’s objectives, including breaking down psychological barriers among new students, fostering connections with returning peers, and offering coaches the opportunity to identify athletic talents for inclusion in university sports teams.
The festival exemplifies the University of Sharjah’s commitment to providing a holistic academic environment that extends beyond academics to nurture students’ personal development and intellectual and physical growth.
The competition featured a series of spirited contests in a wide range of sports such as fitness challenge events, swimming, racket games, basketball, volleyball, billiards, chess, and 100-meter sprints. Students showcased their skills and competed with enthusiasm and great sportsmanship throughout the event.
