An initiative led by Dubai-based business leader Dr. Harmeek Singh delivers emergency aid and long-term rehabilitation across Ramdas, Ajnala, and scores of villages near Gurdaspur, in Punjab, India.
The Global Sikh Foundation and its patrons across the UAE have been taking active part in the relief operation started in response to the widespread flooding across Punjab.
Talking to Gulf Today, Dr. Harmeek Singh said, “The Global Sikh Foundation deployed more than a thousand volunteers to deliver critical relief to affected families. Teams are providing rations, ready-to-eat food, medical supplies, temporary shelter, and coordinated support for long-term rehabilitation in different affected areas of Punjab.”
The effort is being championed by Dubai-based businessman and humanitarian Dr. Harmeek Singh, who is guiding the response strategically, operationally, and on the ground. Since the outset, Dr. Singh has been present at relief sites across Ramdas, Ajnala, and neighbouring villages in the Gurdaspur District, working alongside volunteers to accelerate delivery of essentials and assess rebuilding needs.
Dr. Singh recently returned to deploy a number of volunteers’ teams in various parts and supervised the first phase of the relief operation to distribute all the necessary help. “The Foundation is issuing an urgent call to individuals, businesses, diaspora communities, and civil society groups across India and around the world to unite in support of Punjab. Many families in flood-hit areas still lack access to basic necessities, underscoring the need for rapid, coordinated assistance,” he said. He further pointed the campaign objectives from immediate stabilization and rehabilitation.
“As part of the immediate relief, we are focusing on distributing necessary provision of food rations, clean water, medical assistance, and safe temporary housing. While restoration of basic amenities and community services will be taken care as stabilization and as part of rehabilitation, the foundation will provide all the essential support for home repairs, livelihoods, and dignity-centred recovery.” He mentioned that the ongoing relief operation is more than a fundraising drive, this campaign is a demonstration of community resilience and solidarity. Every contribution — whether financial support, in-kind donations, or volunteer time — becomes a lifeline for families working to rebuild their lives. Dr. Singh, who actively supports community initiatives irrespective of caste, creed, or culture and serves as a representative for the Global Sikh community in the Middle East, is focused on amplifying awareness and expanding the campaign’s reach to meet both urgent and longer-term needs.
