The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil, and Administrative Cases Court has ordered a man to repay Dhs240,000 and an additional Dhs20,000 in compensation after issuing two dud cheques.
The plaintiff filed a lawsuit demanding the defendant pay Dhs240,000 (the value of the two cheques), Dhs50,000 in moral and material compensation, as well as legal fees and expenses.
According to the plaintiff, the defendant had issued two cheques totaling Dhs240,000 without sufficient funds. Although the defendant was fined Dhs40,000 for the offence, he refused to settle the amount.
The court noted that the criminal judgment convicting the defendant of issuing bounced cheques had become final. As the defendant failed to prove that the debt had been cleared, the court ruled in favor of the plaintiff, ordering him to pay Dhs240,000 along with Dhs20,000 in moral and material compensation.
