Abu Dhabi Family, Civil, and Administrative Cases Court ordered a man to repay another Dhs6,200 and Dhs1,000 in compensation.
The defendant had impersonated a bank employee over the phone, tricked the victim into sharing his One Time Password (OTP), and subsequently stole the amount from his account.
The victim filed a lawsuit demanding the return of Dhs6,200, besides Dhs4,000 in compensation for material and moral damages, and coverage of legal fees and expenses.
The plaintiff stated that the defendant called him, claiming to be a bank employee, and requested his OTP. Using this information, the defendant embezzled Dhs6,200 from the victim’s account, leading to a criminal conviction against him.
The court affirmed that the criminal judgment established the defendant’s guilt in embezzling the plaintiff’s money via his credit card.
Consequently, the court ordered the defendant to repay Dhs6,200 and Dhs1,000 in compensation for material and moral damages incurred.
