UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Friday held a phone call with His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq of the Sultanate of Oman, during which they discussed the close fraternal relations and cooperation between the two countries.
The two leaders explored ways to strengthen these ties in a manner that serves mutual interests and contributes to the prosperity and wellbeing of their peoples.
The call also covered a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern. The two leaders exchanged views on developments in the Middle East, particularly in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. They reaffirmed their support for the Palestinian people and underscored the importance of international efforts to uphold the two-state solution and advance it as the only viable path to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed and His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq also exchanged greetings on the occasion of the Prophet’s birthday, expressing their hope that this blessed occasion brings peace and stability to the Islamic world and to all of humanity.
In August, the Sultanate of Oman has condemned and categorically rejected the Israeli government’s decision to perpetuate its military occupation of the Gaza Strip, its continued violation of international law, its disregard for international legitimacy resolutions, and its infringement on the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people without deterrence or accountability, a Foreign Ministry statement said.
The Sultanate of Oman appealed to all countries, and in particular the member states of the United Nations Security Council, to assume their legal and moral responsibilities to stop the injustice inflicted upon the Palestinian people and to take immediate, decisive measures to enable them to reclaim their legitimate rights, to stop this aggression against them and end the Israeli occupation of its lands under the pre1967 borders.
On the other hand, the Council of the League of Arab States affirmed the adoption of a resolution on the joint Egyptian-Saudi vision for security and cooperation in the region. The resolution, taken at the conclusion of the164th regular session chaired by the United Arab Emirates, constitutes an important step toward strengthening collective Arab security and consolidating regional stability.
In its decision, the Council emphasised that achieving security in the region can only be realised collectively, in a manner that respects the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Arab states, in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter and the provisions of international law. It stressed its rejection of any unilateral security arrangements or the imposition of faits accomplis by force.
