Sharjah Directorate of Public Works (SDPW) has begun carrying out a project for a camel market in Al Khabyan area of Al Dhaid City, covering an area of 60,000 square metres as part of its efforts to develop infrastructure and enhance economic and heritage activities in the Central Region.
The project falls within the government’s vision to enhance the sustainability of local heritage-related activities and provide a regulated and safe environment for camel trade, contributing to stimulating economic activity in Al Dhaid and strengthening its position as a vital hub for livestock trade.
The project was designed to include the construction of 22 barns equipped to accommodate camels according to the highest standards in addition to an administrative building containing offices to organise operations and supervise the market and a dedicated laboratory to examine camels and ensure their safety before sale.
It also includes a service building containing a café, a break room and restrooms to provide a comfortable environment for visitors and employees. Decorative walls and gates reflect the region’s heritage character are also included in the project.
In Addition, SDPW also designed internal roads to facilitate the movement of vehicles and camels and provided parking spaces designated to ensure smooth traffic flow and streamline business operations.
