Under the chairmanship of His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council, the Council issued a decision regarding the disposal of impounded vehicles in the Emirate of Sharjah that have remained in custody for no less than three months without their owners or lienholders taking steps to lift the seizure or release them.
According to the decision, the Committee for the Disposal of Impounded Vehicles shall sell, through public auction, vehicles that were seized by the police due to traffic or criminal cases, once a period of three months has passed since the closure of the traffic case file or the issuance of a judicial ruling, and after coordination with the Public Prosecution in the emirate.
Key points include:
Three-Month Period: If a vehicle remains impounded for at least three months without the owner or lienholder (such as a bank in case of financed vehicles) taking action, authorities can proceed with disposal.
Public Auction: The seized vehicles will be sold through an official public auction, ensuring transparency.
Legal Clearance: Before auctioning, the committee must confirm either the closure of the traffic case file or the issuance of a final court ruling, and coordinate with the Public Prosecution.
Purpose: The decision helps free up impound lots, ensure unclaimed vehicles are not left to deteriorate, and generate revenue from vehicles that would otherwise remain unused.
This regulation aligns with wider efforts in Sharjah to enhance road safety, improve traffic management, and regulate impounded vehicles.
