The Egyptian Ministry of Interior has arrested a "tuk-tuk" driver who appeared in a video attempting to harass a foreign woman and extort money from her against her will.
The Ministry issued a statement on its social media accounts, in which it was asserted that the content of a video clip that had been circulated on social media demonstrated an instance of harassment by a tuk-tuk driver against a woman of foreign nationality.
It is further alleged that the driver attempted to extort a sum of money from the woman against her will, while she was riding a motorcycle in the vicinity of the Imam Al Shafi'i Cemetery in Cairo.
The authorities explained the circumstances of the video clip that has recently been circulated on social media platforms. They said that a tuk-tuk driver harassed a woman of foreign nationality, subsequently taking a sum of money from her against her will.
The incident occurred in the vicinity of the Imam Al Shafi'i Cemetery in Cairo, while the woman was riding a motorcycle.
They further stated that following a thorough investigation, the tuk-tuk vehicle appeared in the video footage was successfully located and seized.
The driver of this vehicle was subsequently identified as a resident of the Manshiyat Nasser Police Department district in Cairo. When confronted with the evidence, he admitted to committing the incident as indicated.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of the Interior, it was asserted that the tok-tok vehicle had been seized and that legal proceedings had been instigated against its driver.
