The Ministry of Education has announced a ban on mobile phones on school premises. Public schools have been instructed to conduct periodic inspections to detect mobile phones and students in violation of the ban.
These inspections are carried out in accordance with regulations that protect student privacy and prevent any infringement of their rights. Inspections are limited to bags and personal belongings only.
The instructions emphasised that phone impoundment would be carried out in clear stages. The first offence would result in a one-month impoundment, extending until the end of the school year in the event of a repeat offence. Guardians would be immediately notified and summoned to sign the required forms in the event of impoundment or retrieval.
School administrations called on parents to help educate their children, emphasising that these measures aim to create a safe learning environment that protects student privacy and encourages good behaviour in the classroom.
