The Emirates Astronomical Society has announced that the UAE will have the opportunity to witness a total lunar eclipse on the night between Sept.7 and 8.
During this event, the moon will pass completely through the Earth’s shadow, turning red.
This phenomenon is known as a “total lunar eclipse.”
The eclipse will be visible throughout the UAE, as well as in most of Asia and the Middle East.
Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Emirates Astronomical Society and a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy Space and Sciences (AUASS), has stated that this occurrence is exceptional in its characteristics, as it is one of the longest total lunar eclipses in the last decade.
The total duration of the phenomenon is estimated to be approximately 5 hours and 27 minutes, while the total eclipse phase is expected to last approximately 82 minutes (1 hour and 22 minutes).
It is estimated that approximately 85% of the global population will have visibility of the moon during the phenomenon.
Al Jarwan has confirmed that the UAE will be in an ideal location to observe the phenomenon from beginning to end.

The phases of the total lunar eclipse, according to local time in the UAE, are as follows: The lunar eclipse is set to begin at 19:28, with the penumbral phase marking the onset of the eclipse. At 20:27, the partial eclipse will commence, followed by the total eclipse at 21:30.
The peak of the total eclipse is expected at 22:10, and the eclipse will conclude at 23:56. The partial eclipse is scheduled to end at 00:55 on the morning of September 8, marking the final phase of the eclipse and the conclusion of the penumbral phase. He further stated that the subsequent lunar eclipse would occur on March 3, 2026, and would reach its conclusion with the moonrise subsequent to sunset on that date.
