Teams from Sharjah Civil Defence Authority (SCDA) completely brought under control a fire that broke out in the Industrial Area 6 in record time. No casualties were reported as a result of the fire.
The rapid response and concerted efforts of all entities contributed to mitigating the consequences of the accident and confining the damage to the site itself, preventing it from spreading to other facilities or properties, the SCDA said.
Brigadier General Yousef Obaid Yousef Harmoul Al Shamsi, Director General of SCDA, revealed that Sharjah Police’s operations room received a report on the accident at 4:28pm, adding that Civil defence vehicles, police patrols and the National Ambulance rushed to the site in accordance with a rapid and unified response plan.
Upon arrival, the teams, in co-operation with police patrols, began evacuating workers and vehicles parked nearby from the site, enabling civil defence vehicles to move easily to fight the fire, Al Shamsi said. Inspection revealed that the site contained three facilities, two of which were used to sell auto spare parts and the third was used as a wood warehouse, he added.

He pointed out that the density of the smoke rising from the fire site was due to the nature of the materials inside. The warehouse contained quantities of highly flammable wood along with gas cylinders used in welding and auto engines and spare parts, he said. All of these factors contributed to the smoke’s increased density but the fire was eventually brought under control with great professionalism, he added.
The incident witnessed the use of advanced technologies and equipment that helped reduce the time it took to bring the fire under control and limit its spread to neighboring locations, he said.
Drones were used to monitor ignition sites and accurately identify flame points, enabling firefighting teams to reach them directly and quickly extinguish the fire, he said, adding that an electric escalator was also involved, providing access to high and difficult locations, in co-ordination with the drones and five specialized fire engines.
He explained that four civil defence stations; namely, Samnan, Muwaileh, Saja’a, and Mina, participating in fighting the fire, which helped bring the fire quickly under control.
Sharjah City Municipality’s tankers also supported cooling operations and provided sufficient quantities of water, while Al Marwan Group also contributed positively to facilitating the firefighters' mission with its equipment, he said.
He emphasized that the integrated efforts of civil Defence personnel and strategic partners resulted in complete control of the fire in record time, with no human injuries recorded.
Comprehensive cooling operations were also carried out at the fire site and surrounding areas to ensure they were free of any hotspots that could reignite the fire, he said, adding that field teams inspected the nearby facilities to ensure they were safe and were not affected by the incident.
