Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has completed a 6-km package of roads leading to several schools and educational complexes as part of its efforts to provide a safe and smooth traffic environment for students and parents and ensure that the infrastructure supporting the education sector is ready with the start of the school year.
During a conversation with the Direct Line programme broadcast on Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, Dr. Abdullah Ahmed Al Ali, Director of Road Maintenance Department at SRTA, revealed that SRTA recently completed roads leading to a number of new schools and educational complexes.
These included Al Qalaa School in Al Hamriya area with a length of 2.4 kilometers, Zayed Educational Complex in the Al Muzeiraa with a length of 1.4 kilometers, Zayed Educational Complex in Suhaila area in Al Dhaid with a length of 1.5 kilometers and Zayed educational Complex in Al Saf area in Kalba with a length of 700 metres.
The capacity of each complex is up to 2,500 students and the roads and associated facilities are ready to receive students at the beginning of the school year, Al Ali said.
Talking about the ongoing projects, Al Ali explained that work was progressing apace on a project for traffic improvements on the University City Road, parallel to the International School of Choueifat from the industrial area 6 to Al Shahba.
A third lane is being added to ease traffic congestion, while entrances, exits and parking areas are being modified to ensure smooth traffic flow, he added, noting that the project would be completed by August 24.
SRTA is working to maintain and upgrade the square adjacent to the Holy Quran Complex in Muwaileh Commercial Area to be opened to traffic at the beginning of next week, he said, adding that vehicle traffic would be regulated via smart traffic lights and linked to the central control room.
The development project between Mleiha Road and Ring Road in Industrial Area 17 involves the construction of a passenger station for the Etihad Rail, through which the roads surrounding the site would be developed in partnership with the Authority for Initiatives Implementation, he said.
